Our Book Club
The First Baptist Church Book Club is an informal gathering of people interested in expanding their horizons by reading and enjoying good fellowship.
We generally meet at the church at 11:30 AM on the fourth Tuesday of every month. Sometimes due to scheduling we meet on another Tuesday and will notify you of this change well in advance. Over lunch, the group discusses a current book previously selected by the club members. The range of literature includes fiction, non-fiction, and biography. New participants are always welcome.
The FBC Book Club will meet on the fourth Tuesday, February 24, at 11:30 AM in the library of the church. The book for discussion will be The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd. It is the story of the lives of Sarah and Angelina Grimke, two sisters who were raised on a plantation in South Carolina. They personally witnessed the suffering of slaves and ultimately left the South to become outspoken advocates for abolition and for women’s rights. Everyone is welcome to bring a sandwich and join the group.
