First Baptist Church has had a long history of helping refugee families relocate to the United States. In the 1940's we relocated the Huhn Family from Vietnam and in 1960's we assisted with the relocation of the Shukoff family from Hungary. In 2001, Paul Amara, originally from Sierra Leone, studying in Russia, wanted to pursue a career in ministry. We were able to assist in relocating him and his family. Finally, we were blessed to assist Augustus Spurgeon, political refugee, minister and a old friend of our church, exiled from Myanmar, formerly Burma, in 2004.
